According with Wisden Cricketers Almanack, the cricket is a ball game played by two teams of 11 players each. Although the dynamics of the game and the rules do not match, cricket is quite similar to baseball because the game is about a team hitting the ball and tries to get all the races as possible while the other team tries to eliminate it.
Wisden Cricketers Almanack explains that the cricket is one of the most classic national sports in the UK, which was already practiced in the sixteenth century. Some historians place the first mention of the game in 1478 and not in a British countryside, but in Saint Omer, located in northeastern France. Reappeared in the UK with great force in the XVIII century, at which created the Midlesex Country Club (MCC) agency specified in the rules and watch the game until 1969.
The cricket is a game traditionally associated with knights. So until 1930 the players were divided between gentlemen and professional, having in the stadiums, different outfits and even different entrances to the field.
The game was extended to countries with a British influence, playing also in other European countries like Denmark and Holland. Nowadays the cricket’s great powers: United Kingdom, Pakistan, New Zealand, India, Australia, Caribbean, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe compete ‘every two years at the world cup’. In these countries an international dispute comes to halt all other sports. But out of them cricket is a sport incomprehensible.
Where do you play?
According with Wisden Cricketers Almanack, it is played on an elliptical grass field provided with excellent care and its surface can be variable but should not be less than that of a football field.
In midfield field is rectangular mide20.12 m long by 3.4 m wide, and where they play almost the entire surface of the ground. The pitch should be called as a golf course, as before the batter hits the ball it bounces on the grass and if not perfectly cut it is impossible to hit the ball correctly and may even be dangerous.
Instruments
- Ball is lined with leather. It measures about 6 inches in diameter and weighs 165 grams. – Bate, it is of wood, a length of about 1 meter and a maximum width of 10.9 cm. – Wickets, there are two gates that are located in the center of the field one at each end of an area. Measuring 20 m long and 3 wide and each consist of three cylindrical rods 71.10 cm in height and a maximum width of 22.8 cm, nailed perpendicular to the ground. On these rods are placed 2 pieces of wood (bails) that fall if the bars are struck by the ball.
Player – Hitters are stood in front of the wicket and his aim is to get as many runs as possible and defend the bails. – Launcher, it stands on one side of the wicket and his aims is to throw the ball in order to knock down the bails – Wicket-keeper, it is located behind a wicket on the opposite side of the launcher and his aims is to catch the ball the batter pulls.
